Dad...Digging Out...News about the News!

Hello and Happy Monday, gang!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you did something nice for your pops. I was feeling pretty emotional yesterday, just thinking about how grateful I am that my dad is alive. Not only that - he is doing great. He goes to therapy two or three times a week (physical, occupational and speech) and all of his doctors are amazed at the progress he's made. Here is a picture of my folks in their backyard. They're wearing shirts my cousin's son made - it's hard to see, but the picture is an ear of corn, wearing a Nebraska hat and saying, "Mood Dude". Funny

A lot of our weekend was spent tackling our office. It's something we've been needing to do for a loooooooong time and we've been really good at finding ways to put it off. This is sort of what the space looked like ....

Speaking of messy - I had a really disgusting incident with my earpiece last week. We wear these every day at work so we can hear what's going out over the airwaves and so producers can talk to us. I couldn't hear anything in mine so I took it to one of our engineers. Greg took it apart and shot compressed air through it and a chunk of gunk came flying it out of it. GROSS!

Finally, Sonya, Ed, producer Kelly Kasparie and I received some great news from our General Manager Dale Woods. Here is part of the email he sent us today:

"I wanted to give you some great news about the May ratings book. We had a very good book, but for me the one highlight that stands out the most is us winning the 5pm news in Adults 18-49. That’s right YOU WON!!! That is the first time since May 1997 that WHO has won the 5pm news."

Thanks to all of you for tuning in - we love our jobs and we appreciate you watching Channel 13!

Have a wonderful week,

Pain... Pleasure... Babies!

Hello and Happy Monday, gang!
Here I am again, posting when the day is nearly finished - where does the time go?!?

I feel like I'm just recovering from a workout shoot Sonya and I did on Friday. It was with one of our favorite trainers - Angie Gallagher, but boy was it tough! Here's the thing about Angie... she is this adorable, tiny, sweet woman who tricks you into thinking she couldn't possibly make you work very hard. Then before you know it, you're begging for mercy. We taped several segments with her and you can see one of them tomorrow at five o'clock. I spent a lot of the weekend crying around that my arms hurt, while Sonya said it was her legs giving her grief. We both spent time on our bikes on Saturday, pedaling through the pain.

Sunday was more of a pleasure day. Michael and I got some work accomplished around the house (I always feel better about life when the toilets are clean) and treated ourselves to massages. Later on we stopped by Michael's brother Matt's house to visit with him and his wife Beth. We were enormously entertained by our nieces Olivia and Ella - they are at such fun ages and are both extraordinarily well behaved. Olivia starts many sentences with, "Excuse me, Uncle Mike ..." Hilarious.

And speaking of little ones, Michael's mom has two new additions to her household.
This is Abby....

And this is Spencer...

My camera doesn't take the best photos, but aren't these two precious? There are few things as cute as kittens and puppies. My mother in-law got these furry friends through Roxanne Conlin. Roxanne acts as sort of a "foster mom" to cats and kittens that haven't been adopted or are too little to go to a good home. Her house and office are kind of like overflow for the Animal Rescue League. Please - if you are going to get a pet, visit the ARL. There are so many animals that need safe, loving homes!

OK ... gotta run.
Have a wonderful week!
