Here I am again, posting when the day is nearly finished - where does the time go?!?
I feel like I'm just recovering from a workout shoot Sonya and I did on Friday. It was with one of our favorite trainers - Angie Gallagher, but boy was it tough! Here's the thing about Angie... she is this adorable, tiny, sweet woman who tricks you into thinking she couldn't possibly make you work very hard. Then before you know it, you're begging for mercy. We taped several segments with her and you can see one of them tomorrow at five o'clock. I spent a lot of the weekend crying around that my arms hurt, while Sonya said it was her legs giving her grief. We both spent time on our bikes on Saturday, pedaling through the pain.
Sunday was more of a pleasure day. Michael and I got some work accomplished around the house (I always feel better about life when the toilets are clean) and treated ourselves to massages. Later on we stopped by Michael's brother Matt's house to visit with him and his wife Beth. We were enormously entertained by our nieces Olivia and Ella - they are at such fun ages and are both extraordinarily well behaved. Olivia starts many sentences with, "Excuse me, Uncle Mike ..." Hilarious.
And speaking of little ones, Michael's mom has two new additions to her household.

My camera doesn't take the best photos, but aren't these two precious? There are few things as cute as kittens and puppies. My mother in-law got these furry friends through Roxanne Conlin. Roxanne acts as sort of a "foster mom" to cats and kittens that haven't been adopted or are too little to go to a good home. Her house and office are kind of like overflow for the Animal Rescue League. Please - if you are going to get a pet, visit the ARL. There are so many animals that need safe, loving homes!

I don't EVER want to diminish what the ARL is doing for the homeless pet population...but there are problems. In *MY* family, we couldn't get approved for an adoption for a dog because we live in the country WITHOUT a fenced yard and did not intend to keep a dog indoors. We live on a farm and intended to have a "farm dog" who would live his life in the pleasure of good food, lots of treats, and working as a working breed should. We never intended on putting a non-"working breed" to work, but were always looking for those who, naturally, were good working dogs.
In the mean time my inlaws found a breeder who had what they were looking for and WE ended-up adopting a lab mix who couldn't be a nicer, more appropriate dog to our lives last summer. This summer he was bitten by a rattlesnake on our acreage and has since recovered. Our local vet charging us just a fraction of what we thought it should cost. My inlaws, however, weren't so lucky when their dog went out onto the road to meet some neighbors taking their evening walk.
We found our beloved Benji through PAWS of Greene county. I'm pretty sure they're outside of your viewing area...but the PAWS shelters are wonderful shelters and worth a talk about.
My inlaws are now in the process of talking to the shelter we used about a dog they have there they completely matches their needs/wants...and is available to someone who is NOT intending to keep them in the house.
ARL is a wonderful organization...but for most of RURAL Iowa, it's policies are too strict.
